Should I insure my pet?

Your Rubicatz kitten leaves us vet checked, fully vaccinated, as an indoor-only cat, for cat flu and enteritis, wormed, flea treated and already neutered - and with FOUR weeks top-of-the-range cover from Petplan Insurance.

Petplan will contact you soon after to discuss continued cover, the levels they offer and the cost.

There are many other pet insurers in the market offering varying types of cover and you may decide to choose one of those.

In choosing, please check carefully that you are buying CONTINUOUS cover and not year-on-year cover which would mean an illness or accident claimed for one year would not be covered in the next.

We strongly advise that you do continue to have your kitten insured as there are a variety of common feline illness (common to all cats - not just Ragdolls or pedigree cats in general) for which there are no vaccinations.  And then, of course, there are 'accidents'.

Insurance cover usually has an 'administration' period which may be 2 - 4 weeks at the start during which time you are not covered - so don't waste time in deciding which insurance cover to choose.

Also, all have an 'excess' - an amount which you pay towards the cost of each claim.  Again, check this out when deciding which insurer and level of cover to buy.

Many vets offer a  monthly 'pre-payment' scheme to cover the cost of future routine visits ie vaccinations, worming, teeth cleaning.  While this is extremely useful, it is NOT the same as insurance cover.

Your kitten is already fully vaccinated, flea and worm treated and neutered, some of the reasons why you'd make vet visits in the first year of a kitten's life.

Again, if this is offered, do check with your vet what is included and whether you will need this in the first year of your cat's life with you.
