Why microchip?

What would you do if your pet cat or dog went missing?   Microchipping offers you the security of knowing that your pet's home details can be traced through a national central database.

As a qualified microchipper, trained by The Pet Chip Company, I am able to microchip your pet.

I use Pet-Detect ISO compliant microchips, and register your details, and that of your pet, on line with PetLog, which is run by the Kennel Club.

PetLog is the largest pet reunification service in the UK, with a database storing over 2,000,000 records. This is available 24 hours a day to authorised bodies such as vets, dog wardens and animal welfare centres.  Using a hand-held scanner, they are able to read the microchip in any animal found, and trace their owners via the PetLog database.  Microchipping uses Radio Frequency (RFID) technology and cannot be tampered with, fade or be removed.  Pet-detect uses the latest technology from Germany (FDX-B) and chips can be scanned by all ISO scanners.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a microchip?

A microchip is a tiny, glass, inert capsule the size of a grain of rice containing an identification number linking you to your pet.

How does it work?

Your pet’s chip number is registered with PetLog, the national central database run by The Kennel Club.  Vets, rescue centres and dog wardens have hand held scanners used to detect the microchip number.  Your contact details can be confirmed allowing you to be reunited with your pet.

How is it implanted?

Dogs, cats and rabbits, have their microchip implanted in the scruff of the neck via special pre-packed sterile needle. The chip is deposited into the area between the shoulder blades.  Your pet will feel no more discomfort than with a conventional injection.

What if I move house?

Your pet is registered for life.  You can update your details, such as changes of address, by via Petlog's website or by telephone.

If my pet doesn’t go out will it still need a chip?

It is still important to microchip even if your pet doesn’t go out.  If your pet did get out, a chip offers the best possibility of safe return.

What does it cost?

The adoption fee for our kittens includes the cost of microchipping and registration with Petlog.

Planning to travel?

If you plan to travel abroad with your pet, he or she pet must have a suitable microchip to comply with the regulations; pet detect chips comply with the ISO requirements.
